Abstract:

A shaping machine is also called shaper is mainly used for producing flat surfaces, which may be horizontal, vertical or inclined. Sometimes curved or irregular surfaces are also produced by shapers. In shaping machines the stroke length can be varied by changing the distance between centre of the bull gear and pivot pin. It means the pivot pin will move away or towards the centre of the bull gear. In shaping machine the vertical slots are provide on one side of the shaping machine. The slots can be used to move vertically (upwards or downwards) the bull gear position. It makes us easy to change the bull gear position; it means centre of the bull gear position can be moved away or towards the pivot pin. When we move the bull gear downwards or towards the pivot pin stroke the length of stroke can be increased or decreased. In advanced shaping machine the stroke length can be varied in two types, one is to change the distance between centre of the bull gear and crank pin and another is to change the vertical distance between centre of the bull gear and pivot pin. So in an advanced shaping machine, without changing the diameter of the bull gear and height of shaping machine, we can increase the stroke length greatly. A shaper is used to machine a single job by using a single point cutting tool and hence it cannot be used for high production rates. This project intends to use pneumatic shaper for high production of automatic gear cutting with auto indexing work piece. A small ratchet gear structure has been thus devised to demonstrate the gear cutting attachment in shaping machines. The pneumatic source of power with control accessories is used to drive the ram or the cylinder piston to obtain the forward and return strokes. By this arrangement the forward/reverse stroke of the pneumatic cylinder is adjustable type when compared with the conventional machines. We desired a shaping machine which will automatically index the job and gives automatic tool feed to the pneumatic cylinder.
